Sherm Cohen

Sherm Cohen [1] born January 19, 1965,[1][2] is an American storyboard artist. In his teens Sherm worked as a cartoonist in his local newspaper, he got his start in animation at Nickelodeon on The Ren and Stimpy Show as a character layout artist, followed by a three-year stint on Hey Arnold as a storyboard artist and director.[1] In early 1998, Sherm Cohen was invited by SpongeBob's creator Steve Hillenburg to be part of the original SpongeBob SquarePants crew. Sherm spent the first season on the show as a writer, storyboard artist and director, then moved up to Storyboard Supervisor for the next three seasons of SpongeBob SquarePants [2]. Sherm was also lead storyboard artist and one of the character designers on The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.[3] After SpongeBob's fourth season, Sherm left Nickelodeon to write and illustrate his first book for Walter Foster Publications, "Cartooning: Character Design".[4] [3] [4] Sherm also began teaching classes in storyboarding at the Entertainment Art Academy in Pasadena, CA. Some of this material was turned into an instructional DVD on how to storyboard called, "Storyboard Elements."[5]

After spending two seasons writing and drawing boards on "My Gym Partner is a Monkey," Sherm spent the next year working at Walt Disney Studios, writing and drawing storyboards on the hit TV series, "Phineas and Ferb." After Phineas and Ferb's first season, Sherm was back at Nickelodeon as a storyboard artist for the first season of "The Mighty B!." In 2008, Sherm returned to Disney where is currently writer and storyboard artist for season two of Phineas and Ferb. In December 2008, "Storyboard Elements" instructional DVD reached its 2nd edition and fourth pressing.
